Rebuilding Dreams, Transforming Futures

Following extensive field research in 2017–2018, ASIGE uncovered a critical link between period poverty and school absenteeism. Many girls in rural areas miss school during menstruation or leave entirely due to a lack of access to sanitary products, a challenge that can result in teenage pregnancy, street hawking, and missed educational opportunities.

To address this, we established a certified Reusable Sanitary Pad Production Centre with training from Days for Girls Ghana and Unadilla, New York, and equipment support from the Americans Serving Abroad Project. ASIGE is now gold certified to produce reusable pads, funded in part by proceeds from basket sales.

Since its launch, this initiative has:

  • Produced and distributed 8,556 reusable sanitary pads
  • Delivered menstrual hygiene education to over 10,000 young people
  • Enabled girls to stay in school with dignity and confidence

Every ASIGE basket purchased helps keep a girl in school.
